From its altitude of 341 meters above sea level, Montaione dominates the Valdelsa, in the heart of Tuscany. The municipality extends for 104 square kilometers and it is made up of numerous hamlets in the surrounding area, witnesses of a historical reality of a medieval and sharecropping type.
MONTAIONE
In the town itself, of which the medieval structure remains, you can visit the church of San Regolo which preserves the Madonna del Buon Consiglio (school of Cimabue, XIII century), the Palazzo Pretorio with the Civic Museum and, just outside the center, the chapel of the Santissima Annunziata with a remarkable 17th century fresco.
The San Vivaldo complex is certainly worth a visit! It is a magical place, where there is a convent from the 1500s built in the so-called Selva di Camporena. Here, around the beginning of the century, recognizing the features of the Holy Land, 33 chapels were built that retraced the places of Christ’s life. In the chapels there are precious terracotta high-reliefs and frescoes show scenes from the life of Jesus.
